Georgia’s defense is a huge piece of the SEC championship puzzle

A&M’s defense could be a key to a national title for Georgia, a team that has struggled to win games all season.

The Aggies defense, ranked third nationally in rushing defense and sixth in scoring defense, is also the nation’s best in the run game, with more than 10 touchdowns allowed per game.

In fact, the Aggies are averaging more than eight points per game in SEC play this year, which ranks second nationally, behind only Alabama (9.3).

With the addition of quarterback Jake Fromm to the line-up, Georgia should be able to add more production at linebacker, where the Aggie defense has been solid.

Fromm has made the most of his opportunity in the SEC and should be the focal point of the defense, especially in a game against LSU.

But Georgia also has talented defensive backs in T.J. Ward and Tre’Davious White, as well as cornerbacks Josh Shaw and Malik Jefferson, who could be able add to the team’s secondary.

Georgia should also look to improve at linebacker with the addition and return of defensive backs D’Andre Swift and Deionte Thompson.

With defensive end Corey Robinson out of the picture, Shaw could get some opportunities in coverage, while White could see more playing time at cornerback.

The defensive backfield has also been one of the most consistent units in the country, with quarterback Josh Dobbs leading the way.

After leading the nation in rushing last season, Dobbs could see the most playing time, which could make the offense a bit more explosive.

But Dobbs also is in the middle of a breakout year with 4,921 yards, with 21 touchdowns and just one interception, which makes him one of only five players in the nation to finish with at least 4,000 rushing yards and at least 20 touchdowns.

While the defense has some question marks, Georgia has a great group of returning players including quarterback Zach Mettenberger, who has been very impressive, as he has thrown for 3,917 yards and 21 touchdowns on the year.

If Dobbs and the offense can find a way to consistently score, the defense could end up having the most impact in a win for Georgia.
